After you've reported a claim

After you've reported your claim, we'll call you to gather more details. From there, we'll determine whether the reported claim is eligible for compensation.

If your claim is covered, we'll provide your employee with all the benefits they are entitled to based on the circumstances of the injury or illness.
If your claim is not covered, we'll still work with you to help resolve the reported claim.
Once all benefits are provided and the claim is resolved, we will close the claim.

What should I do if an employee is injured at work?

Notify Pie Insurance: Immediately report the workers' comp claim to Pie via phone at 844-581-0828 or email at claims[at]pieinsurance.com. Provide them with all relevant details, including the date, time, and location of the incident, as well as any injuries sustained by the employee.
Assist the injured employee: Ensure the injured employee receives prompt medical attention. Provide necessary assistance in arranging transportation to a medical facility if required.
Document the incident: Document the details of the incident accurately. This includes gathering witness statements, taking photographs of the scene if possible, and recording any relevant information regarding the circumstances leading to the injury.
Complete and submit forms: Work with your adjuster to complete and submit any required forms related to the workers' compensation claim. This may include the First Report of Injury form or other state-specific documentation.
Maintain communication: Maintain open communication with both the injured employee and your insurance carrier throughout the claims process. Keep the employee informed about the status of their claim and any developments, while also providing updates to your insurance carrier as necessary.
Cooperate with investigations: Cooperate fully with any investigations conducted by your insurance carrier or relevant authorities. Provide requested documentation and information in a timely manner to facilitate the claims process.
Return-to-work program: Work with your adjuster to develop a return-to-work program for the injured employee, if applicable. This may involve offering modified duties or accommodations to facilitate their return to work while they recover.

What is insurance fraud?

The definition of insurance fraud is a deceptive act against an insurance company by a person, usually for financial gain. The FBI estimates that non-healthcare insurance fraud costs around $40 billion a year for insurance companies, resulting in a $400-$700 yearly increase in premiums for the average American family. If you believe you have witnessed insurance fraud or may be a victim of a scam, follow these steps to report the issue:

Contact your state's fraud bureau. Most states sponsor a fraud hotline or let you report an insurance scam on their website.
Call the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) hotline at 800-835-6422. The NICB partners with law enforcement and insurance companies to help identify and prosecute insurance fraud.

What if my employee has already received medical care?

Provide Pie the name, address, and phone number of the medical provider who treated the injured employee
Provide Pie any copies of medical or work status reports that have already been received
Instruct the injured employee to speak with their assigned Pie Claims Adjuster regarding ongoing medical care

What information do I need to report an injury?

Do I have to report the claim?

Yes. All Pie policy holders must report all claims, ideally within 24 hours of knowledge.

Do I have to report the claim if the employee isn’t seeking medical care?

It depends on the circumstances of the injury or illness. When in doubt, please contact Pie.

What happens after I report the claim?

Pie will contact you to obtain necessary details.
Pie will send you required forms for completion.
Pie will work with you, the injured employee, and medical providers to coordinate medical care, benefits, return-to-work efforts, and ultimate resolution.
